FAQs
If you have any questions, I am committed to providing the highest standard of care and support. No question is too small when it comes to your mental health and wellbeing. Please see the frequently asked questions below, and feel free to get in touch if you need any further information.
How long is a therapy session?
Therapy sessions typically last between 50 and 60 minutes. Sessions begin and end promptly to ensure that the schedule runs smoothly for all clients.
How often will I need to attend sessions?
Sessions are usually scheduled on a weekly basis initially, depending on your individual needs. The frequency of appointments will be discussed and agreed during your first session, and can then be adjusted to a pace that feels appropriate and manageable for you.
Can I book a session online?
Yes, you can book a session online by visiting the booking page on this website and following the instructions provided.
What is the difference between counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists?
Counsellors and psychotherapists complete varying levels of training and professional accreditation, which may range from short courses to postgraduate qualifications. They play an important role in supporting people with a wide range of mental health and emotional difficulties across the lifespan. Some practitioners may be registered with professional bodies, while others may not be.
Psychologists are also trained to support mental health needs across the lifespan. However, psychologists are trained to work with greater levels of complexity, which distinguishes the profession. The title “psychologist” is for the most part legally protected and may only be used by individuals who have completed the required training and practical experience within the scope of practice defined by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Psychologists are also bound by the HCPC’s ethical and professional standards and must complete ongoing professional development to maintain registration.
Are you covered by medical insurance?
Yes. We accept clients covered by several medical insurers, including BUPA, AXA, WPA, Aviva, and Vitality. Please let us know which insurer you are with so that we can guide you through the claims process.
How much time do I have to cancel or postpone a session before I am charged?
Sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Providing as much notice as possible allows that appointment time to be offered to another client who may need support.
What is the best way to contact you?
The best way to contact the practice is by email or WhatsApp. Messages are responded to as promptly as possible during working hours. Alternatively click here to contact our administration officer.
What should I do if I need to see someone out of working hours?
If you need urgent support outside of working hours, or if you or a loved one are concerned about immediate safety, please call 111 or attend your nearest Accident and Emergency department. During working hours, you are welcome to contact the practice; however, due to the nature of clinical work, messages may not be seen immediately. Every effort will be made to respond as soon as possible.
Do you partake in psycho-legal work?
Due to the nature of my practice, I do not undertake psycho-legal work. My focus is on providing therapy and building strong therapeutic relationships with clients, and combining this with psycho-legal work is not conducive to that process.
